Foreword

by Brett Thomas

There comes a point in every major modder's life where he or she becomes known by a defining work. This doesn't mean that such great projects aren't ever followed up or preceded by other masterpieces, just that the one project defines the modder's particular "style".

That's exactly what can be said about Edvuld, aka "Temple of NOD guy!". Rickard has been a member of bit-tech's forums for some time, and has truly found his own style through his last mod featured, Temple of NOD. It was that exacting detail and great union between acrylic and metal that made me immediately take note when Beyond the Grave popped up.

I was not disappointed...and I don't think you will be, either. So, without further ado, take it away, Edvuld...

Introduction

Everyone who’s made a mod knows how exhausting it can be, especially when you’re on a schedule. This was the case for me as well, and after finishing up on the Temple of NOD, I thought I’d never go through that ordeal again.

I was wrong.

Setting the stage

Only a few months after completing the Temple, evil thoughts entered my mind, and I couldn’t get rid of them...“Must …build…new case." In the beginning, I only knew that I wanted to replace my rather old Chieftec full tower that I used for everything except gaming.

Over time, the idea evolved. I wanted to be able to fit loads of HDDs into one case, so I thought of something resembling one of those big fileserver cubes. I had already decided that I wanted to continue along the road of dark red acrylic, and brushed aluminium. Now I only needed a more specific theme, which I found in the excellent anime series GunGrave.

This time around I made sketches of all sides, to give me a feel of how the case would turn out. As you can see, almost all of the art is visible somewhere on the two wallpapers above.

With the sketches done, it was time to put dremel to metal. So let's get started...
